We make
our lines with genuine Biothane material, a synthetic material that is superior to leather in strength and durability. All
products are double-riveted with brass rivets. They can be dragged through the mud and wiped clean with
a damp cloth. They do not require oiling like leather lines. In addition, unlike leather that takes months to
become supple, our lines are supple from the beginning. Whether you're training for TD, TDX, VST, nosework, or
herding, our lines are a good choice to add to your dog equipment.
Distance Markers: Tracking lines may be riveted at 20', the minimum distance a handler can be from the dog during AKC tracking tests (TD) and/or 10' for Variable Surface Tracks (VST) and the optional Tracking Dog Urban (TDU) title, or you decide where you want a rivet placed along your line (in feet) when you order. A handler can easily tell when they are at the correct distance from their dog when the rivet(s) slide through their hands. Distance markers are measured from the bolt snap back towards the handle-end of the line. For those of you who prefer a rope, we are now offering a rope that is coated with the same Betathane
material as our flat lines. The rope clamps are solid brass. Currently we are offering these lines in Black
and Blaze Orange. The 5/16" rope feels very substantial and is fitted with the same snap we use on our 1/2"
lines. The 5/16" rope was tested and successful up to 700 pounds of pulling pressure while the 1/4" rope
was tested and successful up to 300 pounds of pulling pressure.
DISTANCE MARKERS (RIVETS) ARE MEASURED FROM THE BOLT SNAP BACK TOWARD THE HANDLE. FOR INSTANCE, IF YOU ORDER A DISTANCE MARKER AT 10 FEET, THE RIVET WILL BE PLACED 10 FEET FROM THE SNAP END OF THE LINE (where snap attaches to the dog collar), NOT FROM THE HANDLE. IF YOU MEASURE FROM THE HANDLE, YOU WILL NOT ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU EXPECT! DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE OF MEASURING FROM THE HANDLE END FOR A 2-FT DISTANCE MARKER ON A 12-FT LINE--YOU WILL RECEIVE A 12-FT LINE WITH A DISTANCE MARKER THAT IS 2-FT FROM THE DOG! ALSO, ORDERING "2" RIVETS IS TOO AMBIGUOUS; NOT ALL CUSTOMERS WANT DISTANCE MARKERS PLACED THE SAME. PLEASE SPECIFY DISTANCE IN FEET. LASTLY, IF A DISTANCE MARKER IS PLACED WITHIN A FOOT OF A HANDLED LINE, IT WILL EITHER FALL WITHIN THE LOOP OF THE HANDLE OR BE WITHIN FOUR INCHES OF THE HANDLE AND WILL BE USELESS AS A DISTANCE MARKER. MORE THAN TWO DISTANCE MARKERS WILL BE CHARGED AN ADDITIONAL FEE OF $2.00 PER RIVET. HAVE A STICKY CLASP? We
have a fix: (1) Purchase powdered graphite lubricant from your local hardware store; (2) Cover work area; (3) Wear rubber
or latex gloves; (4) Gently squeeze a small amount of graphite into the groove under the slide (moving part);
(5) work the slide up and down until it moves freely; (6) add more graphite, if needed; (7) tap clasp on covered work area
to remove excess graphite and wipe clasp clean with soft cloth. We recommend using graphite when Palomine Lines are
used in wet environments or after washing to keep the clasps in working order.
